History at Home at Night: The Nolen Plan

  • Montclair History Center 108 Orange Road Montclair, NJ, 07042 United States (map)

In 1909, John Nolen had a plan for Montclair. Envisioning a beautiful gateway from the city, he designed a Montclair that, in some areas, bears a resemblance to the Montclair we know and love today. He was also forthcoming about some of the things he felt needed to change. What was his vision? What vestiges are part of Montclair today? And what areas did he pan? Learn more about this early “master plan” with Kathleen Bennett, historian and Chair of Montclair’s Historic Preservation Commission.
