Join an interactive tour exploring 200 years of Montclair's rich history through the many voices that shaped it. Using primary source documents, photographs, and oral histories, the Crane House & Historic YWCA Museum uncovers the stories of the Crane family, enslaved people, and Irish servants who were part of the household from 1796 to 1900. In 1920, the historic site became a YWCA for Black women and girls creating a safe haven and social center in the community until 1965. We'll also explore the historic site's transition to a museum during the formative years of America's historic preservation movement. Tours start at 12, 1 and 2 pm. All tours begin at Nathaniel Crane House & Visitor Center located at the back of the parking lot.

In 2024, the Crane House & Historic YWCA Museum was named a New Jersey Black Heritage Trail site by the New Jersey Historical Commission.

This Saturday we are partnering with Montclair Community Time Capsule where visitors can write letters to the future and decorate envelopes that will be sealed and buried in ground at the James Howe House this November. Come join us and stamp your "I was here" into history. Prompts and materials provided.

Museum admission is free this day. Donations are welcome.
