History at Home: Edgemont Park War Memorial at 100: Its Story and Symbolism

The Edgemont Park Memorial, built to honor Montclair men who died in World War I, turns 100 this Veterans Day. For a century it has served as a striking town centerpiece, eye candy for photographers, and a solemn backdrop for Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. Lisanne Renner, historian for Friends of Anderson Park, will recount how this impressive memorial ended up in the park, who designed it, and all the symbolism packed into it. We also remember the reason for its existence: memorializing the 71 Montclair residents who perished in the Great War, and, later, other conflicts to follow.
