History at Home: Building Faith, Building Community: 145th Celebration of St. Mark's United Methodist Church

Methodism moved from Bloomfield to Montclair in 1836, laying the groundwork for a growing faith community. By 1880, Montclair’s first Black church was established, becoming both a spiritual home and a center of community life. Join us for a talk about the 145th Celebration of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, “Building Faith, Building Community” with historian Betty Hollway. Betty Holloway is a long-time resident of Montclair, an accomplished educator, and a researcher of local African American history. She collaborates with the Montclair African American Heritage Foundation on research and community programs, and she serves on the Board of Friends of the Howe House. Betty has presented her work to audiences at the YMCA, the Montclair History Center, the Montclair Public Library, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, and the New Jersey Historical Commission.
